Wedding season is in the air! A magical day filled with beautiful dresses, delicious desserts, stunning décor and . . . flowers! With every wedding comes the important decision: What flowers are going to be used to create your picture-perfect day?

Brides have been known to carry bouquets to ward off bad luck on their special day. Whether you believe this, or you just think they look pretty, a floral bouquet is an elegant way to add some personality to your wedding.

As the years have passed, it’s become more common for brides to create a beautiful bouquet of flowers that’s perfect for their liking. Though this may seem like an easy task, there are proper steps that go into bouquet assembly to create the most attractive bundle of flowers. If you’re planning on DIYing your own bouquet for wedding season, here’s a helpful guide to get you started!

To create a beautiful bouquet, focus on four key elements: focal flowers, fillers, linear flowers, and volume focal flowers. Each element will ensure a lively and stunning bouquet that will impress your guests!

Focal Flowers: A focal flower is, essentially, your base. Usually, a base is created from one to three flowers. From there, you create a bouquet that is centered around those flowers. The focal flower(s) is the crème de la crème of your bouquet! Normally focal flowers are larger in size and the most attractive flower of your bouquet. Examples of popular focal flowers: roses, hibiscus, and sunflowers.

Fillers: A filler usually is something that is used to cover or fill unwanted or awkward gaps. It may add color contrast to the bouquet, but essentially, it is aiding the focal flower! Popular fillers: baby’s breath and eucalyptus. Small and easy to find, fillers are wonderful for creating dimension and texture.

Linear Flowers: Though it’s not necessary, a linear flower(s) is a quirky addition to add flare in a bouquet. Linear flowers are used to add height, which may not always desired. Popular linear flowers: campanula, snapdragons, and gladiola. Linear flowers are an easy way to add texture and dimension to a bouquet. But be careful! Too many linear flowers could take away from your actual focal flowers. Utilize linear flowers graciously.

Volume Focal Flowers: Last, but definitely not least, volume focal flowers! These are meant to bring the entire bouquet together nicely. Volume focal flowers consist of small bundles of beautiful flowers. Typically, these flowers should be simpler. They accent–but don’t take away from–the focal flower(s)!

Creating a beautiful bouquet doesn’t have to be stressful! Follow this guide and anyone can create a showstopping flower creation effortlessly. To alleviate wedding stress, shop Price Chopper/Market 32 Floral Department for all your unique floral needs. Good luck!

The beauty of summer is now surrounding us. From the full, bright green trees to colorful flowers planted on the lawns of our neighbors and local businesses, there is so much to smile about. If you are interested in adding some summer fun to your lawn, you have come to the right place. We have a few tips on how to make the outside of your home look fabulous, one plant at a time. While this will require some work and patience, you will be thrilled by the outcome.

  1. Do Some Research: What type of flowers or plants are you interested in having outside your home? Hanging plants? Flowers that must be physically planted? Having an idea of what you are looking for will help before you go shopping.
  2. Clear the Ground: If you chose hanging flowers, then water them and you are all set! However, if you bought potted plants, it is time to get started. Make sure all weeds and rocks are fully removed from the ground.
  3. Measure Where to Plant: It is important to set the plants down to get an idea of where you want your plants and how far apart they should be placed.
  4. Start Planting: Smooth soil with a rake before planting. Once completed, dig a hole the same length as the container the plant was in. Once the plant is in, fill with the soil you just dug out.
  5. Time to water: Water at the base of your plants and then add bark mulch. This will help retain the water moisture.

We hope your new plants bring some beautiful color to your yard!

We are always on the lookout for information and resources that can make life better, so we are kicking off National Food Safety Week with some more food safety tips, hacks, and helpers! June 7th is World Food Safety Day, and many organizations will be beating the drum to elevate food safety practices that help you and your family stay safe while enjoying great food!

Always…

Tip – Wash hands before handling food and while preparing raw foods.

Hack – My favorite reminder about washing hands came from a restaurant sign. The rest room sign we all know “Employees must wash hands before returning to work” was in place, and next to it was another sign that read “Wash your hands like you just cut up jalapenos and have to put your contacts in.” Effective!

Helper – A hand soap dispenser by each sink in your home makes it quick and easy to scrub up! Find dispensers and refills in the personal sanitation section of the store.

Tip – Wash fresh produce before preparing or eating. Our store teams handle produce with care, and you will benefit when you make it routine to wash fresh produce every time you pack it as a snack or chop it for a recipe.

Hack – Write “wash hands and produce” into those recipes you share with children, friends and family. That helps everyone learn and pass on food safety as part of their usual prep routine.

Helper – Find soft-bristled produce scrubbers in the kitchen section of your store!

Tip – Keep raw and cooked meat separate from each other and keep protein foods like meat and seafood separate from produce when prepping.

Hack – Prep words to live by – “Keep it simple and separate – 1 cutting board and 1 knife per food item.”

Helper – You can find color-coded cutting boards and kitchen knives in the kitchenware section of the store.

Make every day food safety day!
