Focus on including dairy in your kids’ meals during this back-to-school time. Milk, cheese and yogurt help kids grow up strong because they deliver a unique combination of essential nutrients. They also keep kids energized throughout their day, keeping them focused throughout the school day.
Here are two easy ways to fuel their day with dairy:
- Have a smoothie before school.
A smoothie made with real milk and yogurt is a simple and easy way to pack a lot of nutrition into one glass and kids love them! This delicious strawberry acai smoothie is the perfect way to start their day.
Strawberry Acai Smoothie Recipe

Sandwiches and paninis are a household favorite, so much so that they’ve earned their own dedicated month! With back-to-school season approaching, we expect sandwiches to become a daily staple in many homes. We are here to bring you some delicious recipes to change up your child’s school lunches. First, let’s read some fun facts about sandwiches and paninis!
- The Wheat Flour Institute deemed August as National Sandwich Month in 1952.
- The average American child eats about 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before they graduate high school.
- The most popular sandwich in America is the ham sandwich. The BLT is second.
- The name “sandwich” was named after John Montagu, an English nobleman from the 18th century.
- “Panini” means “small bread” in Italian.
- The precise origin of the panini is uncertain, but it is generally believed to have originated in Italy.
As much as we love the classic peanut butter and jelly, check out these recipes for more of a fun twist!

Food and health are deeply connected – the quality and quantity of nutrient rich foods throughout our life is directly related to how we grow and stay well. I count our regional access to diverse types of farms and agricultural products as a big win for our customers and communities, especially the number of dairy farms and the range of products dairy contributes to wellbeing. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans₁ persistently recommend 3 servings of dairy per day because it is a familiar, accessible and delicious way to get a significant amount of nutrients in each serving – some of which are nutrients, like calcium, potassium, Vitamin D, and fiber, we are not getting enough of for optimal health.₂ Check out how dairy foods fuel wellness for all ages and stages!
Infants and toddlers – benefit from Mom’s intake of dairy, such as milk and yogurt, while they are pregnant and nursing, with B12 and Choline supporting red blood cell production for Mom and baby, and the growth of infant brains. Toddlers transition to whole milk at about 1 year old because it has a powerful matrix of nutrients that support overall physical and cognitive health and growth. In fact, milk and water are the primary beverages recommended for toddlers and children through age 5. For them, dairy fuels growth, muscle and bone development,₃ and helps build immunity, with its protein, Vitamin A and D, zinc and selenium content.₄ This is also why milk and dairy are such a focus in schools – both regular and chocolate milk fuel growth and wellness throughout their school years. During that time milk and dairy are considered “vehicle” foods – they deliver a range of critical nutrients whether they are enjoyed alone or with other foods, like fruit and whole grains, when snacking or eating a meal. Teens are often way below the dairy intake they need, so encouraging some deliberate focus on dairy intake is a smart move. Adolescence is a unique time of growth, particularly for increasing bone mass and density to prepare for adulthood needs.₁ We are only ‘young’ for the first 18 years – the quality and quantity of the remaining 60+ years is partially built on the food and health habits of those critical growing stages.
The Summer 2024 Olympics are in full swing, which brings me to fueling adults and performance, whatever that may be, including sports, hobbies, training and working the full spectrum of jobs and careers, having families and managing the general chaos of busy lives. All of that requires fuel to support your best efforts, whether it be to win the gold medal, or “win” from having the health, stamina, and energy to seek your most optimal path through life. We all have a need to ensure we can perform whatever actions required to live well and reach our goals. For those Olympians, who may be participating in more than one event, chocolate milk, yogurt and cheese sticks are go-to refuelers, providing hydration, electrolytes, protein and carbohydrates to refuel and recover quickly between sports events. Hard-working adults have a similar level of stress on body systems – maintaining a regular habit of enjoying dairy may be just the thing you need to enjoy the fruits of your labor and everything else!₁
Dairy delivers wholesome goodness, again and again, to our glasses and plates, supporting the wellbeing, energy, enjoyment and vitality that brings richness to our lives. Enjoy!

Rice Krispie Treat S’mores: Is there anything better than marshmallows and chocolate? Well yes, marshmallows and chocolate AND rice krispie treats. Rice kispie treats will elevate your s’mores to an elite level of crispiness.
Candied Bacon S’mores: Candied bacon brings a wonderful sweet and savory mix. This is at the top of our list.
Roasted Berry S’mores: Berries pair wonderfully with chocolate, why not add them to your s’mores for a refreshing twist? We love roasted berries for a campfire aesthetic in the summer.
Salted Caramel S’mores: Decadent, gooey, and delicious Salted Caramel S’mores can become very addicting.
Tropical S’mores: These tropical s’mores will have you in vacation mode in your own backyard. Add some grilled pineapple, maraschino cherries, and toasted coconut to your s’mores and replace the graham crackers with white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. Paradise.
Chocolate Chip Cookie S’mores: This idea is simple, but oh-so delicious. Pack your s’more between your favorite chocolate chip cookies for more chocolaty goodness.
Elvis S’more: We all love a good Elvis sandwich, but how about an Elvis s’more? Peanut butter, banana, and bacon added to your s’more. Yum!
Grasshopper S’mores: This minty fresh recipe features dark chocolate mint, like an Andes, rather than your regular s’mores chocolate. A fun, tasty twist.
PB&J S’mores: Did you think we were done remixing sandwiches? Nope. Peanut butter and jelly s’mores are the best thing since sliced bread.
Caramel Apple S’mores: Last but not least, caramel apple s’mores. We recommend using a granny smith apple topped with a warm caramel drizzle.

Hatch Chiles Are Here Through August!
So, what is a Hatch chile? A Hatch chile is a meaty green chile pepper, with a grassy, herbal flavor. Some varieties are smoke out of your ears spicy, but most pack just enough heat to make them enjoyable in a meal, without overpowering your tastebuds. Depending on your own level of spice tolerance, of course. When roasted, hatch chiles take on a buttery flavor with a sweet heat.
Hatch chiles are grown in the Hatch Valley in New Mexico, they must be grown in this region along the fertile Rio Grande to be called Hatch chiles. They come in a number of varieties, from Numex Big Jim, featured in the “Guiness Book of World Records” as the largest green chile, to the Sandia variety, which is a bit smaller with a medium heat offering.
Hatch chiles come in a range of heat levels. Hotter varieties can reach up to 8,000 Scoville Units, which is around that of a spicier jalapeño. Milder varieties reach up to 2,500 Scoville Units, which is similar to a spicier Anaheim pepper.
Try these out the next time you’re making salsa, enchiladas, and more, you can even add them to your next cheeseburger! Check out more recipes below!

Here at Price Chopper and Market 32, we’ve been partnering with local corn farmers in the Northeast since 1932. Corn is one of our region’s top agricultural products. Our farmers love to eat this local treat fresh-off-the-stalk, and so do we!
Leading up to the month of July each year, our corn takes quite a journey. During the month of May when local farmers are tending to their fields, we will tap into Florida’s sweet corn season and supply those delicous ears. Fast forward to June and we start to move up the coast into the state of Georgia. While we are getting corn from here, our local corn has started to sprout. Exciting things await!
Finally, the month of July comes and we are popping with excitement (pun intended)! The first half of the month, we move even further up the coast to North Carolina and Delaware, since their corn season is in full swing. However, by mid to late July, our local sweet corn season is finally underway! This lasts only until mid September, but we enjoy every minute of our corn season.
We love corn season so much, we have an incredible deal happening for two weeks only starting on August 4th, 2024. Amaize Corn, grown locally by Reeves Farms in Baldwinsville, New York will be shipped to all Price Chopper and Market 32 locations. This item will be sold in a pack of three at $3.99.
We recently had the opportunity to visti our friends at Reeves Farms. Check out some photos below!
